La Traviata - Synopsis
The love story that enthralled Paris. High Class Courtesan, Fallen Woman, Beautiful Prostitute or Whore with a Heart of Gold – this is Violetta Valery – La Traviata. The opera is about ultimate love, sacrifice and ending in inevitable death – rekindled in today’s Moulin Rouge film.
Be swept away by Violetta’s party that leads to the famous Libiamo ne’lieti calici Drinking Song. Followed by dramatic confrontations in Violetta’s and Alfredo’s summer retreat.
Although Flora’s Party starts light hearted with gypsies and pretend matadors, it ends with Alfredo’s heinous act.
Finally there is the most heart-rending of tragic endings – a misguided father, a misinformed son all gathering round the dying Violetta.
